Our MS 317:

Built as an MS 315 in 1946**, it was equipped with an Salmson 9 NC engine, serial number 145.754 and allocated to the SALS. The aircraft Log Book makes interesting if stilted reading. Situation V at Satolas the 01.03.1947. Report Veritas Paris n 7062 of the 30.04.1951: R for revision with 526h 35. In for C of A at the re quest CIC of Beynes ( Covering stripped off for repair of the two lower longerons, fitted with two new wings, new empennages and new paint work) Finished on the 17.10.1951. Sent to the CIC at Beynes by OA n 86 of the 08.07.1951. CI n B.962 suspended at Beynes the 22.01.1953. C of A carried out in the Regional Workshops of Beynes till 08.08.1956 at 973h 58. Classed R for C of A on the 04.02.1960 with 1775h 02. C of A granted on the 15.05.1960. The acceptance flight ( 0h 45 ) is carried out by Jacques Gom is the same day.

Landing accident "heavy braking" on the 02.07.1960 on the aerodrome of Beynes. Fuselage damage at 40%. Report from Veritas of the 08.07.1960 situation R with 1896h 31. The aircraft is repaired by the CAARP at Beynes and flies again on the 17.05.1961 with the CFI HERON as pilot. On the 03.10.1963 Situation R for C of A with 2389h 17. Transformed into an MS 317 during the C of A carried out by CADAF at Chambery from November 1963 to 03.04.1964, Continental engine fitted and flies again on the 26.03.1964 with MARTY as pilot.

Sent to the Association Aeronautique d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux on the 01.04.1966. Sent to the Aero-Club of the Bassin d'Arcachon on the 30.03.1967.

Classed R for C of A on the 10.05.1967, fuselage strut found to be broken. C of A carried out in the workshops of the CAARP at Beynes till 20.03.1968. The 24.03.1969 with 3405h 11 and new registration 11.04.1969. Sent to the Aero-Club of Bernay by OA of the 25.09.1970.

Turns over onto it's back during a landing on the 17.07.1971 on the aerodrome of Evreux.

It is a German national, Ernst SCHMUTTERER, 8459 Neukirchen Gartenstaadt 10, who informs the Museum de l'Air of the presence of the crashed aircraft and it's possible availability, by a letter of the 24.08.1971. The Mus?um makes a request for the aircraft and thanks Herr SCHMUTTERER by letter n 874/M6A of the 07.09.1971. The aircraft is struck off the register as being surplus to Service needs, by decision n 5010/SMFA/T12/286 of the 04.11.1971 and given free to the Museum de l'Air then delivered by Bulletin de Livraison n 3596/T3 of the 10.11.1971. The Continental engine has to be returned to St Cyr. The donation to the Museum de l'Air is official the 15.12.1971 as well as all it's documents (CI and CDN).

After spending time at Villacoubly in the reserve stock of the Museum de l'Air et de l'Espace, the aircraft is offered for restoration to M F.L. HENRY of Chartres who was not able to continue the work. Then M Philippe MONIOT of Issoire stocked it for a while, before the aircraft wa s fetched from Issoire at the beginning of 1994 by the Association "AILES ANCIENNES DE LA BAULE"* who are now restoring it to air worthiness.

* Since the 30.03.1998 the Association is now called "Museum Aeronautique -Presqu'île-Côte d'Amour".

**1946 is the year of its new immatriculation and not its year of construction.

Remark : The two Journey Logs and the Aircraft log are kept in the archives of the Museum de l'Air et de l'Espace in the files specific to this aircraft. ( Note at the end of February 1994 ).

Flying : 2 MS 315 , F-AZAH (ex: F-BBZO) and F-AZHL (ex: F-BCNT) and 11 MS 317 : F-BBZR, F-BCBC, F-BCNL, F-BCNN, F-BFZK, F-BGKX, F-BGUV, F-BGUZ, Swisserland HB-RAO (ex: F-BCBI), Belgium OO-JUL (ex: F-BFZO) and OO-MOR.
