  • It was in 1925 that the Taylor brothers started to design and build light aircraft on an "amateur back-yard" basis, in Rochester in New York State. It was in 1929 that saw the meeting between C. G. Taylor and William T. Piper. The financial climate at the time forced the two men towards the design of a competitive machine. It was the TAYLOR E-2 CUB, first of the line, and which already had the silhouette of the J3.
  • In 1931, Piper started production of the Piper J3 Cub, with at that time an engine of 40 hp, then later an engine of 65 hp. Total production was 14 125 aircraft for the civil market and 5 703 for the Military.
