BIBLIOGRAPHY OF HENRI MIGNET

  • 1893.- 19 October : birth of Henri Mignet near Saintes in Saintonge ( department of Charente inférieure ).
  • 1904.- Secondary Studies at the Lycée of Nantes.
  • 1911.- Correspondance avec Gustav Lilienthal, brother of Otto Lilienthal.
  • 1912.- HM-1-1 Single engined glider inspired by the aircraft of Lilienthal.
  • 1913.- HM-1-2 Biplane glider inspired by the design of Oscar Chanute. Studies at the School of Electricity in Bordeaux.
  • 1914.- First employment at the Motobloc factory in Bordeaux.
  • 1914 - 1918. Henri served as Radio Téléphonist. First contacts with aviation on the military fields.
  • 1918.- Henri Mignet falls ill with malaria and is demobilised.
  • 1920.- First motorised aircraft HM-2. Looked like a Blériot. All of the elements worked, but never together.
  • 1922.- HM-3 "The Dromedary" ; HM-4 A Parasol type without empenage. Engine, an Anzani 10 CV ; HM 5 A glider carried on the shoulders.
  • 1923.- Henri Mignet manufactured and sold radios.
  • 1924.- Henri Mignet won a prize at Vauville with the glider HM-5.
  • 1925.- HM-6, Aircraft with the engine behind the pilot - a forerunner of the modern ULM. HM-7 was a helicopter.
  • 1926.- Mariage of Henri Mignet to Annette Triou. The young couple move to Paris and Henri worked for the Philips Cpmpany.
  • 1927.- Birth of François Mignet, Henri's first son. Henri built a camera and a projector for the cimema in 9,5 mm from parts of an old alarm clock.
  • 1928.- Return to Charente. with the parts of an HM-6, Mignet builds the HM-8, his first aircraft that really flies, and which had a success with amateur builders.
  • 1929.- First flights of the HM-8 built by amateurs builders. Lifting of the protection of the Professional Builders. Mignet encouraged construction of the HM-8 but continued his research towards other formulas. Return to Paris. HM-9 with pivoting wings. Unsatisfactory. HM-10 with fixed wings, engine behind the pilot connected to the puller propeller by a shaft.
  • 1931.- First edition of the book " How I built my aeroplane" with plans for the construction of an HM-8. Build details and trials of a wind tunnel.
  • 1932.- HM-11 triplane without empennage considered as the first Pou-du-Ciel (Flying Flea ) Mignet installed his tent and the HM-11 near to Soissons, in the shade of a small birchwood. It is here that he ciontinues his trials. HM-12, a variation on the theme of split wings.
  • 1933.- HM-13 ( Pou-du-Ciel with interior cockpit ) On the 10 September, first flight of the HM-14 ( Pou-du-Ciel - définitive configuration ) built in a month.
  • 1934.- Publication of the book " The Sport of the Air" consecrated to the HM-14. Presentation of the HM-14 at the Salon de l'Aéronautique.
  • 1935.- Founding of the RAA ( Assembly of the Amateurs of the Air ) which will later become the RSA. Crossing of the channel. Phenomenal success of the Pou-du-Ciel in France and in England. First meeting of Pou-du-Ciel at Orly. First accident in Algeria.
  • 1936.- Other accidents. Trials of the Pou-du-Ciel in wind tunnels in France and in Enfland. Modifications to the HM-14 making the accidents due to wrong C of G impossible. Creation of "The Mignet Aircraft Company" at Meaux, near to Paris. Premiers vols des HM-15 (monoplace cabine fermée), HM-16 ( Baby Flea ), HM-17 ( Baby Flea enlarged, two-seat enclosed cock-pit ), HM-18 ( single seat enclosed cock-pit ), HM-19 ( two-seat side by side ),HM-210 ( improved version of the HM-18 which obtained a Certificate of Airworthiness in England )
  • 1937.- Following on from a multitude of administrative problems and at the request of a group of American businessmen, Mignet left for the United States. Creation in Chicago of the American-Mignet Aircraft Co.
  • 1938.- Build by American-Mignet of the HM-20 single seat, of the HM-21 and 23 two-seat. Return of Mignet to France.
  • 1944.- 10 December : Assassination of Annette Mignet Comunist Partisans. Order of the Pou-Maquis HM-280 , first Pou-du-Ciel with foldinf wings, by the Army, as a liaison aircraft for Airborn Troops.
  • 1945.- End of the build of the HM-280
  • 1946.- HM-290 followed by the HM-293, derived from the 280 for amateur construction.
  • 1947.- Departure for Argentina. Build of the single-seat HM-294 and of the three-seat HM-300.
  • 1952.- Frustrated by the swindling of the Argentinian finance houses, Mignet leaves for Brazil and builds the two-seat HM-310 "Estafette"
  • 1954.- Departure for Japan. HM-330 "Flowering Cherry" derived from the 310.
  • 1955.- Departure from Japan for Morocco.
  • 1956.- Construction in Casablanca of the two-seat HM-350 and the single seat HM-320.
  • 1957.- design of the HM-360 single-seat and of the 380 two-seat for amateur build.
  • 1958.- Return to France at the request of the Director of the Service of Aviation Training and aviation Sports. Presentation of the HM-350.
  • 1960.- HM-390. Two-seat with fuselage in polyester, whose success was stifled by the Administration who had never forgiven Mignet for having revolutionised light aviation 27 years earlier. First signs of Cancer.
  • 1962-1963. Study of the two-seat HM-400.
  • 1965. 31st August, death of Henri Mignet.
